Myer Return Policy: 30-Day Change of Mind, Exclusions & Refund Rules

Bought something from Myer and it’s not quite right? Maybe the size is off, the colour feels different at home, or you’ve simply changed your mind. Myer does allow change-of-mind returns, but there are clear time limits, exclusions, fees for postal returns and special rules for big or customised items.

This guide breaks down the Myer returns policy in simple terms, covering change of mind, excluded categories, proof of purchase, online vs in-store returns, Myer Returns Cards and faulty products.

Myer Returns Policy – Key Points

  • Change of mind window: Most items can be returned within 30 days of purchase.
  • Christmas extension: Items bought in November or December can be returned until 31 January the following year.
  • Conditions: Item must be unworn/unused, in saleable condition, with original sealed packaging or tags attached, and any product seals unbroken.
  • Proof of purchase: Required for change-of-mind returns – receipt, tax invoice, packing slip, gift receipt or MYER one app entry.
  • Return methods:
    • In-store purchases: Return to any Myer store (except Big & Bulky items), not by post.
    • Online purchases: Return in store, or by ParcelPoint or Australia Post (change-of-mind postal returns have set fees).
  • Postal return fees (change of mind):
    • ParcelPoint: $10.95 per return.
    • Australia Post: $14.95 per return.
  • Excluded items: No change-of-mind returns on clearance/reduced-to-clear items, Big & Bulky goods, pierced jewellery, face masks, bedding accessories, alcohol, perishable food, gift cards and several other categories.
  • Refund method: Wherever possible, refunds go back to the original payment method; otherwise, you receive a Myer Returns Card (valid 3 years, usable in store and online).
  • Faulty goods: Covered by Australian Consumer Law – major failures give you the right to a refund or replacement; minor faults usually mean repair, replacement or refund within a reasonable time.

1. Change-of-Mind Returns

Myer’s change-of-mind policy is fairly straightforward but quite strict about conditions. They “may offer you a refund” if all rules are met – so staff will always assess the item first.

Time Limits

  • Standard: Return within 30 days of purchase.
  • Holiday extension: For items purchased in November or December, you can return up to the end of January the following year.

Condition Requirements

To be accepted for a change-of-mind refund, your item must:

  • Be in saleable condition – no signs of real wear or use.
  • Be unworn or unused.
  • Have all original sealed packaging or tags attached.
  • Have any product seal unbroken and untampered (very important for beauty and tech items).
  • Not fall into any of the excluded categories listed later.

Team members will look at the product first and then decide whether it qualifies under the policy. For online orders, the same assessment happens once the item reaches the returns centre.

Exchanges vs Refunds

  • In-store purchases: If eligible, Myer can offer a refund or exchange.
  • Online purchases: Change-of-mind returns lead to a refund only– exchanges aren’t processed by the online returns centre. If you want a different size/colour, you generally:
    • Return the original item for a refund, then
    • Place a new order for the replacement item.

Change-of-mind returns are not a legal right, so Myer can refuse them if conditions aren’t met, if proof of purchase is missing, or if they detect heavy misuse of the policy.

2. Items Excluded from Change-of-Mind Returns

Myer lists several groups of products where change-of-mind returns and exchanges are not offered (unless the product fails a consumer guarantee).

  • Clearance / Reduced-to-clear items
    • Anything marked as clearance or reduced to clear.
    • Change of mind is not accepted.
    • Subject to availability, Myer may allow an exchange only for an identical item (same style/model), but this is not guaranteed.
  • Big & Bulky Goods (e.g. large electrical items, furniture, mattresses)
  • Custom / personalised items
    • Custom made or made to order products.
    • Monogrammed or personalised items.
    • Altered products (e.g. clothing that has been altered).
  • Pierced jewellery
  • Alcohol
  • Hosiery
  • Face masks
  • Bedding accessories (quilts, pillows, mattress protectors, etc.)
  • Personal care appliances (electric toothbrushes, shavers and similar items)
  • Perishable goods such as flowers or food
  • Product care plans
  • Gift cards or vouchers, including third-party gift and recharge cards
  • Any product where the attached tag clearly states “no change of mind”
  • Any merchandise where GST has been claimed via the Tourist Refund Scheme, unless you can show proof that the GST was repaid on re-entry to Australia

Myer also notes that sales to suspected resellers or bulk purchasers are treated as final – the change-of-mind policy does not apply to those transactions.

3. Proof of Purchase & Gift Receipts

Accepted Proof of Purchase

For change-of-mind returns, you must show one of these:

  • Original register receipt / tax invoice (paper, electronic or a clear photograph).
  • Online Tax Invoice (note: order confirmation emails alone are not accepted).
  • Packing slip included with online and Click & Collect orders.
  • Return / exchange receipt or gift receipt.
  • Your purchase as shown in the MYER one app.

Staff are not required to “find” your proof of purchase – you need to present something they can verify. If you can’t provide proof, Myer will not process a change-of-mind return.

Gift Receipts

  • You can ask for a gift receipt when buying a present.
  • When someone returns an item with a gift receipt, the refund is issued as a Myer Returns Card for the original purchase value.

4. How to Return – In-Store vs Online Purchases

Returns for Items Purchased In Store

  • Take the product (and packaging) to any Myer store in Australia.
  • In-store purchases cannot be returned by post.
  • As long as you have proof of purchase and the item meets the policy, staff can process an exchange (if available) or refund on the spot.

Returns for Items Purchased Online (myer.com.au)

For standard online orders (excluding Big & Bulky):

  • Return to any Myer store for a refund, or
  • Use one of the postal options:
    • ParcelPoint (via Hubbed) – change-of-mind returns cost $10.95.
    • Australia Post – change-of-mind returns cost $14.95.
Returning via ParcelPoint
  1. Check the item was purchased on myer.com.au, meets the returns policy, and is no bigger than roughly a carry-on suitcase (up to 120 cm cubic, max 10 kg).
  2. Go to the dedicated Myer ParcelPoint returns page (linked from Myer’s Returns & Exchanges page).
  3. Choose your preferred ParcelPoint location and lodge the return.
  4. Pay the $10.95 change-of-mind fee.
  5. Print and attach the returns label to your parcel.
  6. Drop the parcel at the chosen ParcelPoint location and keep the tracking number.
Returning via Australia Post
  1. Check the item was purchased on myer.com.au, meets the returns policy, and is under 105 cm in length and 22 kg in weight.
  2. Select your state from the Australia Post links on Myer’s site.
  3. Choose your drop-off location and lodge the return online.
  4. Pay the $14.95 change-of-mind fee.
  5. Print and attach the label (or download the barcode and have Australia Post print it).
  6. Drop the parcel at the chosen Post Office / location and keep the tracking details.

Big & Bulky Items

  • Big & Bulky goods are not eligible for change-of-mind returns.
  • They cannot be returned in store or by post.
  • If such an item is faulty, you must call the Myer Customer Service Centre (13MYER / 13 69 37) to arrange an assessment and next steps.

5. Refunds, Myer Returns Card & Tender Rules

Wherever possible, Myer refunds to the original payment method. There are some specific rules around how that works:

  • Card purchases: The same card and cardholder must be present. If not, Myer may refund to a Myer Returns Card instead.
  • Gift cards / returns cards / reward tenders:
    • If you paid with a Myer Gift Card, Coles Group & Myer Gift Card, Velocity Points, CBA Awards or present a gift receipt, the refund may be issued as a Myer Returns Card.
    • Myer Returns Cards and Gift Cards cannot be exchanged for cash or other gift card brands.
  • Digital wallets: Purchases via Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and similar are refunded back to the same wallet where possible.
  • Online multi-tender (gift card + Afterpay): Refunds are applied to a Myer Returns Card first, and then to Afterpay for any remaining balance.
  • Myer Returns Card:
    • Used when Myer cannot refund to the original tender.
    • Valid for 3 years from issue.
    • Usable both online and in store.

6. Faulty or Damaged Items & Consumer Guarantees

Myer’s change-of-mind rules do not limit your rights when a product is faulty, unsafe or not as described. Those are covered by the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

Your Rights Under the ACL

  • If goods have a major failure, you can:
    • Reject them and choose a refund or replacement, and
    • Seek compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
  • If the problem is minor, Myer can:
    • Repair the item within a reasonable time, or
    • At their discretion, replace or refund instead.
  • Myer won’t provide a remedy if an item is damaged through misuse, neglect or abnormal use.

How Faulty Returns Are Handled

  • Myer may need to send the product to the manufacturer or service agent for assessment.
  • Electrical or electronic products may be repaired using refurbished parts, and personal data may be lost – you should back up and wipe devices before returning them.
  • Satisfactory proof of purchase is required before Myer provides a remedy under the ACL.

7. Myer Marketplace & Loyalty Partners

Myer works with Marketplace sellers and MYER one Loyalty Partners. A few extra notes:

  • Marketplace suppliers are required to follow the Myer Returns Policy, but individual product pages may highlight any extra terms.
  • If you bought from a MYER one Loyalty Partner (such as an affiliate site), you need to follow that partner’s own returns policy.

8. Privacy & Return Monitoring

To help prevent fraud and manage returns, Myer may:

  • Ask to see and record photo identification (e.g. driver’s licence or passport) for some returns.
  • Record your name, ID type, ID number and expiry date, then store this securely for a reasonable time.
  • Refuse change-of-mind returns and/or restrict or refuse future transactions if they identify unreasonable or excessive return patterns.

Quick Myer Returns FAQ

  • How long do I have to return something to Myer?
For change of mind, you have 30 days from purchase. Items bought in November or December can be returned until 31 January the following year. Faulty items are covered within a “reasonable period” under Australian Consumer Law.
  • Can I return online purchases in store?
Yes. Most myer.com.au orders (excluding Big & Bulky) can be returned at any Myer store for a refund, as long as they meet the policy and you have proof of purchase.
  • Are postal returns free?
No. Change-of-mind returns via ParcelPoint cost $10.95, and via Australia Post cost $14.95 per return. These fees are paid when you lodge the return label online.
  • Can I return clearance items?
Clearance or “reduced to clear” products generally cannot be returned for change of mind. Only faulty clearance items are covered by the ACL.
  • What if I lost my receipt?
Without acceptable proof of purchase, Myer won’t process a change-of-mind return. For faulty goods they may still need proof before offering a remedy, but your ACL rights still apply.
  • How will my refund be paid?
Wherever possible, back to your original payment method. If that’s not possible, or you return with a gift receipt, Myer issues a Myer Returns Card, valid for 3 years and usable online and in store.

Summary

In short, Myer’s return policy gives you a 30-day window (with a holiday extension), clear conditions for change-of-mind refunds, a long list of exclusions, and strong protections for faulty or mis-described goods under Australian Consumer Law. Keep your proof of purchase, hold on to tags and packaging until you’re sure you’re keeping the item, and choose in-store returns where possible if you want to avoid postal fees. Follow those steps and most Myer returns are straightforward to sort out.
